Color Forecast

I find color forecasting so interesting. Sometimes I try to resist what the forecasters predict and purposefully seek out unpopular colors. But usually I succumb and actually want what “they” say I want! Here is what is forecast for Fall 2010 – just around the corner.

I’m dyeing yarns today and I’ll use this as a springboard for some new colorways.  I’ll have to put my own twist on them as the Rose and Gray is making me think of the 80’s.

Are you craving these colors?

TNNA

I’m having an amazing time at TNNA.  (The National NeedleArts Association) The conference goes from June 12-14.  I’ve been in classes all day learning about teaching kids to knit, color trends and fashion forecasts, developing a plan for knitting samples, and choosing patterns that flatter you. I’ve even met some of my customers and made friends with new shop owners. There is so much to take in. There is going to be a fashion show this evening and an ice cream party hosted by Ravelry ! yeah!

I’m picking up ideas for improving my website and developing new colorways.

update from home:

TNNA was a wonderful experience. It was interesting to see the inside view of the yarn industry and how big name yarn companies promote their yarns. I had never really thought of the yarn industry as a fashion industry before but I can see now the connection and efforts taken to create knitwear designs based on runway fashions and trends. I usually look at yarns and knitting from the “how to” point of view and don’t always care if I am in style or not. I met many nice people and had a chance to reconnect with old friends and customers.

Knitcircus

I’m excited to be interviewed by Knitcircus on the Knitcircus blog. If you haven’t checked out the online Knitcircus Magazine you’ve been missing out on great patterns and ideas. It has nice collections of unique and original patterns along with book reviews, recipes and sewing ideas- definately something for everyone.

With a new purchase of Handwerks yarn I’ll include a coupon from Knitcircus for a free copy of the Knitcircus Summer 2010 Pattern Collection pdf (while coupon supplies last).

Dyeing Workshop

5/21/2010 Today I was notified by the retreat organizers that the retreat has been canceled. I don’t know anything more about the situation but if you had signed up, contact the organizers directly.

5/20/2010 The workshop has been put on hold while the company organizing it deals with some issues. I’m waiting to see what the outcome is before I move forward with more plans.

I’m so excited to be teaching a 2 day dye workshop in Chicago, November 12-14. There is also a Ravelry group set up for the retreat with more information here Hand Dyeing Retreat.

There will be plenty of hands on time, dyeing yarns with different techniques as well as time for knitting with hand dyed yarns. We’ll be exploring methods of developing colorways, sources for color inspiration, and how to get the knitted results that you want.

The workshop is limited to 20 people.

Classic Sock

I’ve just re-introduced a great yarn. Classic Sock yarn is 100% superwash merino, 3-ply , nice and round, springy, soft, smooth and shiny.  Its packaged in 100 gram skeins/480 yards. Its plenty for a pair of socks. Last year it was under the name of Necessary 3-ply and its come back this year with its own new name.

I’ll be dyeing and posting it in small 5 skein batches, 4-6 colors every 3-4 weeks as time and stock permits. I got a great deal on this yarn and am able to offer it at a great price to you!

Happy New Year

Seems appropriate to start off the New Year thinking about yarns! I’m evaluating my yarns and planning ahead for 2010!

It’s all about color. It’s how and why I got into dyeing yarns.  It’s what inspires me. It’s the primary reason people seem to be drawn to a yarn. I’d like to offer more colors in fewer yarns. That’s good news – a couple of fabulous yarns in lots and lots of mix and match colors.  I’ll still be sampling some new yarns but I’ll be concentrating on a couple of high quality, versatile yarns.

My New Year’s resolution: Focus on high quality yarn in more colors to choose from. Sounds about  right for 2010.

Super DK on SALE

I’ve put the last of the Super DK on SALE – for an early Holiday gift. There are less than 10 skeins left of this yarn. I am tempted to keep them for myself as this yarn knits up into wonderfully soft hats and scarves – I’m going to resist it for a few days and offer it to you! When this is gone its gone. It was a special purchase from a top rated bale of British Merino. So soft and dreamy………..

Cyber Monday Sale

In honor of Cyber Monday I’ve moved a number of Blue Faced Leicester yarns over to etsy and marked them down to $14/skein. This is a HUGE $10 off the retail price!!!

These are some of my favorite yarns and they won’t be on etsy long. By the end of the week all my yarns will be headed to a local sale at Fabrications.

Sock Club, Sock Yarn Club, Travel Club, Sock Yarn Travel Club!!!

I’m excited! I’m starting a Sock Yarn Travel Club. It’s a yarn club inspired by travel destinations- my two favorite things- travel and yarn or is it yarn and travel or traveling with yarn! Yup that’s it> A Yarn-cation!

I love dyeing based on landscapes so these will be exclusive to the club new colorways taken from beautiful destinations.  A featured designer will be helping me by providing a pattern as well and there will be fun things too. A postcard of the destination with the yarn. Each shipment will highlight a different kind of yarn. Only the best – cashmere, Blue Faced Leicester, merino, bamboo…..

Details coming soon on my website.

New Cashmere blend yarn is So-Soft!!

I’m so pleased to be able to offer a new 80% merino/10% cashmere/10% nylon sock yarn. It is so soft and now aptly named So-Soft-Sock! I’m surprised the addition of just 10% cashmere has the effect that it does. The fibers are well blended in this yarn, it feels very smooth and even.  It dyes beautifully and I’m introducing it in 8 Fall inspired colors.

To make room for this addition to my line up I’ve listed a number of yarns on Clearance. When something new comes in, something else has to go –

lucky for you !
