2011 Sock Yarn Club

Club YARN !! details for the 2011 Handwerks Sock Yarn Club are now up and open for sign up here. The 2011 club is inspired by 4 California destinations. I’m hitting all the high points – mountains of Lake Tahoe basin; northern rugged coastline of Bodega Bay;  inland central Death Valley; and fun in the sun Santa Monica, southern California beach living.  I’ll be dyeing and shipping yarns in Feb, May, Aug and November, giving you enough time to knit the wonderful sock pattern that will come in each mailing.

Four seems just right, not too many so you are always behind… I hate that… and not so few that you are bored twiddling your thumbs in between.

Come join the fun, sign ups are open.

Crown of Leaves

This has been an amazing week. First it was Labor Day, hooray a  3-day weekend; then I got daughter back off to college; and then Hunter Hammersen released the free Gramercy sock pattern in Sock Plus 8.  Now, I see that the Fall 2010 Twist Collective issue is out with Faina Goberstein’s lovely Crown of Leaves hat pattern in Classic DK Tropical Seas….!

Its gorgeous! Crown of Leaves

Gramercy

Hunter Hammersen just released a new sock pattern using Handwerks Sock Plus 8. Its offered at http://www.violentlydomestic.com/

Not only is it free but there is a contest for a free skein of yarn to go with the pattern. Follow the link and read the blog to find out all the details.

I always get so excited when I see my yarns knit up. I love them in the dye pot and skeined up but it’s particularily thrilling to see what someone’s creative mind and nimble fingers can knit with them! Hunter’s sock patterns are lovely. They are so knitable and wearable.  I’m anxious to get started on my own pair of Gramery……..Thanks Hunter!

Off to knit-

P.S. – This is perfect timing  since new stock of Sock Plus 8 is on its way in larger 120 gram skeins.

Cool Weather = DK time

Cooler weather lends itself to bulkier knits and quick knitting with DK weight yarns. I’ve just added six new DK weight colors to my line up. Try them with Handwerks Comfy DK weight socks pattern or your favorite cowl pattern.

New Book on Knitting Knee-Highs

Barb Brown’s new book Knitting Knee- Highs: Sock Styles from Classic to Contemporary is now available for pre-order on Amazon.com. It includes several patterns: Omar’s Carpet Kneehighs, Calf length socks and Nice socks in custom dyed colors from Handwerks.

Here is the link.  I can’t wait to get my copy. I always love seeing Handwerks yarns knit up and Barb’s designs are gorgeous!

Needles and Notions

I’m now carrying ChiaoGoo double point needles as well as the adorable ChiaoGoo Tiny Tools case.

I love the 5 inch dpns and they have such nice pointy points. I use them for my socks and fingerless mitts.  The bamboo is nice and smooth as well as warm. The points make it easy to knit twisted stitches, lace and small cables.
